Honeywell Vent Sanitizing: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Honeywell-compatible UV vent sanitizing components across Houston, with most replacement jobs running $340 to $680 installed depending on the lamp style, ballast condition, and whether the mounting plate needs retrofitting. We carry the common Honeywell UV100A, UV2400, and TruDRY-series replacement lamps on the truck, so most swaps happen in a single visit. The typical way Houston owners find out their Honeywell UV system has failed is that the indicator light on the power supply goes dark, or someone opens the coil cabinet for a filter change and notices the lamp isn’t glowing anymore. In houses with allergies or pets, the first clue is often subtle: the air smells a little stale again, the way it did before the UV system went in.

Which Honeywell Models This Applies To

Honeywell’s UV treatment line in Houston homes breaks into three rough families: the UV100A surface-treatment series, the UV2400 airstream series, and the TruDRY line paired with Honeywell’s whole-house dehumidifiers. The gotcha we see constantly is lamp diameter: the UV100A uses a 14-inch insert lamp, while the UV2400 uses a 16-inch design, and they will not physically seat in each other’s bases. If you’re checking your own system, the model number is printed on the power supply ballast, not on the lamp itself. Look for a small white label on the aluminum housing with a format like UV100A-1059 or UV2400-120. For Honeywell specifically, we recommend OEM lamps in most cases because the quartz sleeve tolerances are tight, and a slightly-off aftermarket tube can overheat the socket. The ballast, on the other hand, has solid aftermarket equivalents that save real money without cutting corners, and we’ll tell you which ones we trust.

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing

  • Indicator light is off or blinking. The most common failure is the lamp itself burning past its rated life, which Honeywell typically puts at 9,000 to 12,000 hours depending on the series. Blinking usually means the ballast is faulting, not the lamp.
  • Faint ozone smell near the air handler. A degraded lamp can shift its UV output spectrum slightly, and in a closed coil cabinet that can produce a faint electric-air smell. It’s not dangerous at that level, but it means the lamp is done.
  • Lamp looks dark or has a blackened end. When you pull the lamp and the glass near the base has gone smoky or the ends are black, the electrode coating is failing. That’s a clear replacement signal with no guesswork.
  • Allergy symptoms returning despite a clean filter. UV sanitizing doesn’t replace filtration, but in Houston homes where mold growth on the coil was the issue, a dead lamp means the coil is re-colonizing. You’ll notice the difference in a few weeks.
  • Ballast humming or warm to the touch. A failing ballast can keep powering a degraded lamp, but it runs hot and buzzes. If caught early, you replace the ballast before it takes the lamp with it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

The honest installed range in Houston is $340 to $680. The lamp itself is the smallest part of that: a Honeywell OEM replacement lamp runs $90 to $180 depending on the series, and a ballast is $110 to $220. The rest is the labor to access the coil cabinet, pull the old lamp without breaking the quartz sleeve, check the mounting plate for corrosion, and confirm the new lamp is drawing correctly with a multimeter. Houston humidity means coil cabinets rust faster than dryer climates, so we sometimes need to replace a corroded mounting bracket, which adds about $45 to $65. Every quote from us is a written flat price before any panel comes off, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Paul Adeyemi built this business on telling people exactly what they’ll pay before the tools come out, and that hasn’t changed in all the Houston summers since.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely read the model number off the ballast label, note whether the indicator light is on or blinking, and check if the lamp appears dark through any viewing port. That’s useful information, and it helps us arrive with the right parts. Where DIY goes wrong is the quartz sleeve: it’s thin glass, it breaks easily inside the coil cabinet, and the shards end up in your air handler. The electrical side is also straightforwardly hazardous if the ballast is still powered. We shut the breaker, test with a meter, and treat the old lamp as the mercury-containing waste it is. If the lamp is already out and you just want it swapped, call (940) 314-5008 and we’ll tell you the exact price for your Honeywell model before we head over.
