Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Rotobrush-compatible register and grille cleaning tools in Houston, with typical installed pricing running $40 – $120 depending on your model and what’s worn. Most jobs are done same day because we keep the common Rotobrush parts on the truck. You usually find out this part has failed the hard way: the brush head stops spinning when it hits the register, or it spins but leaves a gray streak of grime right where the vent meets the wall.
Paul Adeyemi has spent nearly two decades pulling these tools apart and putting them back together across Houston homes, from the Heights to Katy. He’ll tell you what he sees, what it’ll take, and what it’ll cost – before he touches a thing. That’s not a slogan. It’s how we quote every Rotobrush register and grille job, because the last thing you want is a tech standing in your hallway trying to upsell you on a brush head you didn’t budget for.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
The Rotobrush register and grille cleaning attachment mounts to the aiR+ series brush heads, but here’s the compatibility gotcha most Houston owners don’t catch: older R500 series brush heads use a slightly narrower mounting collar, and the grille brush from an aiR+ won’t seat properly on an R500 without a step-down bushing. If you’re not sure which series you have, check the side plate on the brush head. The aiR+ series has a black plate with white lettering. The R500 has a stamped metal plate with the model etched in, often faded to nearly nothing after a few humid Houston summers in a garage.
Rotobrush sells the register brush as an OEM replacement, typically in 6-inch and 8-inch working widths. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist; we’ve installed both. The difference matters less in the brush itself than in the drive coupling. OEM couplings are nylon and tolerate the heat in a Houston attic better than the cheaper plastic aftermarket versions, which stiffen and crack. If you’re only cleaning your own system quarterly, aftermarket is a fair choice. If your Rotobrush earns money on other people’s ducts, we recommend staying OEM on the coupling and saving the aftermarket option for the replaceable brush strips.
We’re an independent service provider – not affiliated with Rotobrush directly. But we work with their equipment day in and day out, and we’ll match your part correctly the first time.

Signs Your Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning Part Is Failing
Here are the symptoms we see most often on Rotobrush register brushes in Houston homes and office buildings:
- The brush head stalls when it reaches the register. This is almost always the drive coupling shearing inside the housing. The motor spins, but the torque doesn’t transfer. Common on units that have sat through a Houston summer in a hot garage, because the nylon coupling hardens.
- The brush spins but leaves a gray halo around the vent opening. The bristles on the outside ring are worn shorter than the center bristles, so the brush can’t reach the wall surface right at the register edge. This is wear, not failure, and new outer brush strips fix it.
- A hard rattling sound that changes when you press the brush against the register. That’s the brush hub bearing starting to go. You’ll hear it more in harder grilles, the stamped steel ones common in older Houston ranch homes.
- Black dust trailing out of the brush head housing. That’s failed carbon from the motor’s internal bearings. It means the brush motor has been running hot, often from doing entire homes without pause during a Houston attic job.
- The telescoping shaft slips and won’t lock into your working length. The internal locking cam is worn out. It’s a separate Rotobrush part from the brush head itself, but we fix both at the same call if they’re shot.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed pricing for Rotobrush register and grille cleaning part replacement in Houston generally runs $40 for a brush strip set up to $120 for a complete brush head assembly with a new drive coupling. Parts are separate from labor, and we give you a written quote before we order or install anything. No surprises on the invoice.
What drives the range is whether you need just strips, just the coupling, or the whole head. A registered truck carrying only the brush strips will cost less than a visit for a full head rebuild. We don’t charge by the vent or by the minute. One flat price per symptom, quoted before work starts.
Every Rotobrush part we install is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a replacement part fails inside a year under normal use, we make it right – full stop. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise at work, and it applies to every part we put our hands on.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before calling us. With the unit unplugged, inspect the brush head for hair wrapped around the hub, check if the outer bristles are visibly shorter than the center, and look for cracks in the coupling at the mounting collar. If it’s clearly stripped brush strips, you can order those and swap them with a screwdriver in about twenty minutes.
Where DIY goes wrong is the drive coupling and the hub bearing. Both live in tight housings, and forcing the old coupling out with a screwdriver is how people crack the brush head casting and turn a $30 part into a $110 assembly. And if your motor is spitting black dust, don’t run it – that’s an electrical component on its way out, not a brush issue. That’s the kind of thing you want a trained hand on, not a lunch break project. Call (940) 314-5008 and we’ll walk you through what you’re seeing before you spend a dollar.
FAQs
A Rotobrush register and grille brush head typically lasts 18 to 36 months of regular professional use, but in Houston’s humidity and garage heat, the coupling and the outer bristle ring usually need replacement closer to the 18-month mark. If you store the brush indoors between jobs, you’ll stretch that toward three years. Call (940) 314-5008 and we’ll give you an honest read on whether your brush is worth rebuilding or replacing.
Yes, in most cases the brush side can be repaired – outer strips, inner strips, and the coupling are all replaceable Rotobrush parts, and we stock them. What usually can’t be repaired is a cracked brush head casting or a motor with fried carbon, and at that point a fresh head assembly is the cheaper route. We’ll show you the failure before you pay for the fix.
A Rotobrush register and grille brush head replacement usually takes 30 to 45 minutes once we have the right part in hand. Most Houston customers are back to cleaning the same day we arrive. If we need to order a less common part, we’ll tell you the lead time before any work begins.
We stock the Rotobrush brush strips, drive couplings, locking cams, and complete aiR+ series brush heads on our trucks serving the Houston area. We also carry parts for register cleaning heads that fit older R500 units. If you own a Rotobrush and you’re not sure what you’ve got, call (940) 314-5008 and we’ll help you identify it over the phone.
We stock and service cleaning heads and couplings for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier systems too. The tool platform changes, but the wear patterns don’t – same Houston heat, same dirty returns, same fix. Call (940) 314-5008 and tell us what you’re working with.
